Welcome to Little Chef’s Kitchen! For those new to this festival or living outside of India, today is Ganesh Chaturthi, an anniversary celebrated from centuries of the arrival of Lord Ganesha to Earth.
This is a really elaborate festival especially for Maharashtra. I being from Delhi do not celebrate this particular festival but I like to make a dessert or something authentic.
These are rabdi cakes I layered in these dessert bowls I got a few days ago.
Ingredients required:
250 ml full cream milk
4 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp chopped nuts
1 tsp cardamom powder
A few strands of saffron
2 tbsp milk powder
2 tbsp condensed milk
4 tbsp flour
1 tsp ghee
3 tbsp milk
1/3 cup whipping cream
3 tbsp powdered sugar
a pinch of baking soda and 1/4 tsp baking powder
Directions:
First, add the full cream milk in a pan and add the saffron and cardamom. Keep stirring until it boils.

Add milk powder and condensed milk along with the nuts. Add the sugar and cook for 5-10 minutes. Let this cool completely and then refrigerate.

In a bowl, add flour, sugar, cardamom, baking powder and baking soda. Mix well and add milk and ghee.

Make a lump free batter and with the bowl, microwave this for 1-1.5 minutes.

After cooled, crumble it up.

In another pre cooled bowl, add whipping cream in it and whip at high speed for 5 minutes. If possible do it over an ice bath.

Keep adding powdered sugar until fully whipped with stiff peaks. Add cardamom and saffron and whip again.

Add the things we prepared in any order you like, refrigerate for at least 4 hours and serve!
I hope you guys liked this recipe and let me know your thoughts in the comments.
Question of the day!
If you celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi, what do you do for it? And also if you don’t, what is your favourite festival?

Hmm, my favorite ‘festival’ would be the American Thanxgiving Day. It still it the most revered by even the non-religious, usually celebrated with a big turkey or ham dinner. Although stores now open even on Thanxgiving and Christmas days, this is one of the last “hold-outs” when many do close, allowing more time for the gatherings.
If you and your family ever visit Kentucky in November, we will treat you to a traditional TG Day dinner! 😉

Oh wow! I have heard about thanksgiving a lot and have always wanted to be a part of it ! If i can, I would probably make a turkey myself. If you ever visit India, would love to help you to a traditional thaali with all indian flavours. Have a great night!
